The shutter speed mistake that makes video look cheap
If your video looks jittery and cheap, check your shutter speed. Most beginners leave it on auto, and on a bright day the camera cranks it right up.
Every frame comes out razor sharp, so movement looks choppy, like a sports broadcast instead of a film. The fix is the one-eighty degree rule: set your shutter to double your frame rate.
Filming at twenty-five frames? Use a fiftieth of a second. Fifty frames? A hundredth.
But outside, that lets in far too much light. That's what a variable ND filter is for.
Think of it as sunglasses for your lens. Screw it on, dial it darker until the exposure looks right, and your motion blur stays natural.
One setting, one filter, instantly more cinematic.
